Things Go Boom at Mojave

At Mojave Airport, TV and film production crews can utilize wide-open spaces to produce sequences that might not be possible at other locations. Pyrotechnics are welcome, as can be seen at the latest project to be filmed on one of Mojave's runways, Spike TV's Boom.

The scene to be shot involved two RVs, one of which was T-boned into the other with dramatic results. The Mojave Airport has its own dedicated security staff and fire department, which are available to support film projects. For Boom, two of the Airport's three crash rescue trucks were on standby, and once the initial scene was complete, quickly dowsed the flames. The crews then used hand lines to control the smoldering remnants, while the filming continued.

The Boom scene used Runway 26, and in addition to the ability to rent a runway for such a project, the Airport also maintains two dedicated filming pads.

At the end of the day, the film crew looks over their handiwork, while the fire crew heads for the station.
