Lancaster HS, Air Force JROTC Cadets Visit

Lancaster High School, Air Force JROTC Cadets visit Mojave Airport – Capt. James W. Carlson, USAF (ret.), Senior Aerospace Science Instructor at Lancaster High School bused 47 Air Force JROTC Leadership Cadets to Mojave on Tuesday Sept. 27, 2005, for a field trip to Mojave Airport/Spaceport. This was the second annual Aerospace Science 2 curriculum in action field trip made by Lancaster High. Three van loads of cadets from Lancaster High’s Air Force JROTC Unit came to Mojave Spaceport and witnessed the winning X-Prize flight by SpaceShipOne on October 4, 2004.

Mojave Airport Operation Manger, Bob Rice gave an orientation and briefing on operations at the airport; Tony Montoya, FTA (Flight Test Associates) gave the cadets a tour of hangar #75 and examples of available careers in aircraft maintenance and certification; Mojave Airport Fire Chief, Rick Aday and Control Tower Operators, Tim Pickens and Travis Mortensen demonstrated various careers involved in running an airport, careers they become skilled at while serving in the U.S. Air Force; Pam Mathews, EKAD Administrative Assistant helped prepare for the barbecue afterwards held at the Hansen Hangar and Doug Burdick, Fiberset, Inc., aptly handled the cooking duties.
