Allen - Burt Rutan team of spaceship builders succeeded once again on
Wednesday, September 29, this time completing the first of the two
required flights to win the $10 million X-Prize. The day dawned a
little chilly, but absolutely gorgeous at the Mojave Spaceport.
Everything went off like clockwork, and veteran civilian astronaut
Mike Melvill peaked at apogee at 338,000 feet, crossing the
