​Air Traffic Control Specialist, Tower (FT)

The Mojave Air & Space Port (MASP), a General Aviation Airport in Kern County, CA, is seeking applications for Air Traffic Control Specialists, Tower.   We are a general aviation and flight test airport and America’s first in-land commercial spaceport.  Our clients include the National Test Pilot School, Stratolaunch (the world’s largest aircraft), Virgin Orbit, Scaled Composites, and other industry leading aerospace companies. We also provide key military and law enforcement aviation and ground support as well as, being a premier destination for music, movie, and photography companies.

Purpose and Scope:  
Functioning in an ATC tower facility, Tower Controllers are responsible for issuing clearances and traffic information to aircraft landing, departing, or operating within Mojave’s (MHV) Class Delta Airspace.  They provide the safe separation and movement of arriving, departing, and maneuvering aircraft within Mojave’s airspace.  They coordinate and transmit flight clearances, meteorological, navigational, emergency, and other information to pilots, airport personnel and other airport users throughout the course of daily airport activities. 

JOB DESCRIPTION:
• Provide air traffic control services for Mojave Air & Space Port in Mojave, CA. Provides, single-controller air traffic services within established priorities to aircraft arriving, departing, or conducting practice approaches at Mojave Air & Space Port.
• Maintains positive control of aircraft within MHV Class Delta airspace and coordinates with adjacent facilities to transmit and receive instructions and information relative to flight.
• Applies appropriate separation minima IAW applicable FAA publications.
• Alerts airport emergency crews and other designated personnel while handling unexpected events, emergencies, and unscheduled traffic.
• Provides current and forecasted weather phenomena to aircraft.
• Formulates and issues all ground movement instructions to aircraft, taxiing aircraft, vehicle operators, and personnel operating within the controlled movement area.
• Maintains and disseminates records of daily operations.
• Other ATC and/or airspace duties as assigned.

​REQUIRED SKILLS:
• Maintain training, weather certification, and FAA certification for control tower operators.
• Ability to read, write, and interpret documents inherent to FAA Air Traffic Control duties.
• Valid driver license with acceptable driving record.
• Ability to pass drug and background screenings.
• Ability to work occasional weekends and/or overtime in support of client test or other operations.

DESIRED SKILLS:
• Former military VFR Control Tower Operator familiar with military and FAA coordination/protocols.
• Standard Terminal Automation Replacement System (STARS) experience.
• Multi/Intersecting runway control experience.
• Intermediate computer skills specifically using Microsoft Office Suite; ability to learn additional computer skills or software programs.
• Excellent, effective, cooperative interpersonal skills with all levels of management and staff.
• Effective oral and technical written communication skills to communicate complex information in high pressure, emergency situations.
• Ability to use general office equipment such as fax, phone, copier, etc.
• Strong professional customer service skills, including active listening, prompt service and follow-up.
• Excellent analytical skills with the ability to evaluate data and consider decision impact across multiple areas with limited information in high stress situations and environments.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Must possess a valid FAA Air Traffic Control Tower Operating Certificate.
• Must possess a current second-class medical certificate issued under Part 67 of the FAA regulations.
• Must possess or obtain a certificate of authority to take weather observations issued by the Federal Aviation Administration.
• Valid CA driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
• Ability to pass drug and background screenings.
• Must be able to complete within 30 working days of employment all facility-rating requirements in accordance with Part 65 of the FAA regulations.
